Dr Bruce Durie has been paper bag salesman, bus conductor, research
scientist, journalist, Director of the Edinburgh Science Festival, a
museum director and a senior academic at various universities.
Originally
a biochemist/pharmacologist specialising in sleep research and the
biochemical nature of anxiety, he had a long career as a medical and
science writer with many articles in publications as diverse as New
Scientist and the Guardian.
In
addition, he has a long track record as a senior manager in universities,
notably Kingston, Napier and the University of Strathclyde, where is
currently Course Director, Genealogical Studies in the Centre for Lifelong Learning..
He
now concentrates mainly on teaching and researching in genealogy, and on writing books. His series for How To
Books were international best sellers; his local history books have a
strong local market; his collections of detective stories are widely
acclaimed; and his comic fantasy novels a have a cult following.
Born in Fife, Scotland, ancestral home of the Duries,
Bruce now lives in Glasgow.
