SIR DAVID DURIE KCMG

Sir David Robert Campbell Durie, born 1944, was until May 2003, His Excellency Governor of Gibraltar.

Sir David is married to Lady Susan (Weller) Durie with three daughters (born 1969, 1971, 1975) and was educated at Fettes College, Edinburgh and Christ Church, Oxford.

Prior to Gibraltar, Sir David had a long and distinguished career in the DTI and in Europe.

On his appointment to the post of  Governor, his brother, the late Rev. Major General Ian Durie said: "Within weeks of David's appointment to the post of deputy ambassador to the EU, he saved the British crisp from European regulation, so keeping Gibraltar British should be a doddle.”

Arms of Sir David Durie
(matriculated in 2003)

The Arms show a variant of

the classic Durie chevron and crescents, with allusions to the rock of Gibraltar and a motto which reflects both the rock and Sir David's Christian faith.
