Canadian Duries - The first Durie Migrants

Canada - The First Durie Migrants - Are you descended from these?

The best-known are the Ontario printing family of Durie, and the descendants of military surgeon Dr William Durie (1779-1862), including William Smith Durie (1813-1885) who had an important career in the Canadian Militia and his son, also William, whose body was famously smuggled back to Canada by his mother and sister after his death at Passchendale during WWI.

Are you one of their descendents? Are you related? Did your ancestors arrive in Canada earlier than Dr William Durie?

We would like any Canadian Duries or those with Durie connections who feel they could be included in this section to send us their names and some information about their lives and their families. Please send your story and if possible photographs as well to information@duriefamily.co.uk. All will be reviewed and may be used in a Newsletter &/or posted on the website. Durie Family Association members will, we hope, be able to provide detail they have on parents, grandparents and ancestors to help us all build up our extended Family Tree.
