Our genial, erudite and expert genealogist Bruce Durie is visiting North America again! Canada and the USA. He will be giving a series of talks at the BIFHSGO (British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa) Family History Conference on 28–30 September 2018 and attending the Highland Games in Laurinburg 6 October.

Rossend Castle, Burntisland, Fife, Scotland, is on the market! Many of the Duries who came for ‘Durie Night’ at the Edinburgh Tattoo last year visited the castle the following day as part of the ‘Duries and Four Queens’ tour – because Mary, Queen of Scots, stayed there quite often.

Just over a year ago, on 25th August 2017, the Durie Family - 70 strong from all over the world - with the Bruce Family and a detachment from the Elgin Regiment of Canada escorting the Great Sword of Robert the Bruce, marched on to Edinburgh Castle’s esplanade to open the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. An amazing and very memorable occasion!
After the public event was over Chief Andrew Durie of Durie presented Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff with a cromach.

Some weeks before the Edinburgh Tattoo opened the Chief presented Brigadier David Alfrey, the Producer and CEO, with a bottle of ‘The Durie Dram’ whisky and asked if it could be used for filling the quaichs on the Durie-Bruce night. Happily he accepted

Before the start of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on 'Durie & Bruce Night', 25th August, Andrew Durie of Durie and Lord Charles Bruce were presented to Marine Corps General Joe Dunford, head of the USA joint forces who took the salute that night. At the start of the Tattoo the Durie and Bruce Families had marched out on to the Castle Esplanade in two columns.

The Durie Night, shared with the Bruce Family, at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo on Friday 25th August was an incredible experience! We mustered outside the Castle Gate, we strolled up across the esplanade with the 6,000 thousand empty seats all around us

'A Splash of Tartan’! It has all begun! The Preview night of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s 2017 event was held on 3rd August with the Macnab and Hay Clans leaping in to prepare the way for all the others – two to three different Clans or Families each night will open proceedings.
